Partner Peter Ni was recently invited to moderate AmCham’s “How to Cope with the Recent Tax Reform in China” seminar in Shanghai. In late 2011, the State Council introduced a Business Tax/VAT reform pilot program, beginning with the transportation & logistics sector and the modern service sector. Such a movement opens a new chapter of tax reform in China, but many companies don’t fully understand the opportunities and implications and how to cope with the new policy.
The topics include:
· An overview of the reform
· Which industries may benefit from the reform, and which industries may experience challenges?
· A look at how logistics companies are responding
· What changes should trading companies make to their supply chains?
About 150 representatives from MNCs and Chinese companies attended the seminar and spoke highly of the seminar.
Peter Ni was also invited to speak at the “Return of Red-chip Companies” seminar organized by OIL in Shanghai recently. He talked about the choice of structure for return, the tax considerations regarding the restructuring and how to optimize the relevant taxes.
